AEE S71 4K ACTION CAMERA REVIEW

Cheap action cameras have flooded the market but few come close to the outright quality or price of the market beating AEE.

The AEE S71 action camera stands as a real GoPro alternative. When compared directly to the market leader’s features and build quality it might lag behind slightly, but considering the price and quality of its video, AEE S71 is presently one of GoPro’s most dangerous rival.

Design

The camera comes with a waterproof housing and loads of mounting accessories, that look very similar to GoPros. There are all kind of different bases, adhesive pads for helmets and other surfaces, waterproof housings for both LCD and no LCD versions. This is actually quite a good feature. By removing the LCD screen from the back of your camera, you can make it even smaller, lighter and increase battery life.

Using the action camera without an LCD screen is not a problem. AEE S71 has both an Android and iOS app that can be used to control and view the camera image over WiFi. Configuring is also pretty easy on the app. For example you could easily leave the LCD module home and go diving with the smaller casing.

Specification

  • True 4K/ 15fps resolution and 1080p/60 high-definition videos
  • 155 degree wide angle view
  • Built in Wi-Fi compatible with the AEE app
  • 16 mega pixel shooting
  • 10 x¬†optical zoom
  • G-sensor for auto start/stop recording function
  • 1,500 mAh Batteries for longer shooting (2 hours)
  • Max MicroSD 64GB

Like the Hero4 Black, the S71 is also a 4K camcorder but has upped the ante of the resolution to 16Mp. Yes you get WiFi, and a downloadable iOS or Android app lets you control features and controls including recording, playback, zoom in/out, viewing angle, photo shoot, video cutting, sharing and more. Indicators are also in the app for WiFi and battery status, remaining recording time or number of stills left, recording duration, recording mode, parameter settings and other handy information.

Video Quality

Unlike those cheap action cameras, AEE actually support true 4K videos, the video quality is sharp. AEE S71 can shoot videos in 4K at either 15 or 12fps, 2.7K 30 or 24fps, 1080p 60/48/30/24fps, also 960p and 720p. At 720p it can shoot videos in slow motion at 120fps. Maybe only downside for those interested in 4K is that there is no option for 30 or 24fps.

Conclusion

AEE S71 action camera is just like a real gopro and with good design and quality. I do recommend it if you wanna do some professional shooting outdoors. It’s about $170 cheaper than Gopro Hero 5 session.
